VACANCY: Health Promotion Officer (CAPE TOWN)

The Heart and Stroke Foundation South Africa (HSFSA), a non-profit organization, is seeking to appoint one (1) Health Promotion officer with a nursing or paramedic qualification, to be based in Cape Town. The applicant must be able to fulfill the primary goal of the Health Promotion Programme which is the prevention of cardiovascular disease (heart disease, strokes and the associated risk factors) through various activities, including health risk assessments in the private sector and underserved communities, health education talks and working in a team for health campaigns. The successful applicant will report directly to the Health Promotions Manager.


  • Must be a South African Citizen or a Permanent Resident in South Africa
  • Must have a health-related degree, diploma or certified Preference will be given to applicants with an advanced nursing qualification or paramedic qualification
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a health-related field such as Health Promotion and disease prevention in a primary, tertiary or private health care setting
  • Experience in data collection using digital technology for research-related activities will be an advantage
  • Ability to collate information and write good reports
  • Above average verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to communicate in English and An additional language such as Xhosa will be an advantage
  • Must be computer literate (including, word, excel and Google Drive)
  • Have a South African driver’s license for a manual vehicle and driving experience
  • Own transport will be an added advantage
  • Being a trained EMS worker with more than 5 years experience will be an advantage
  • Ability to Work in a team, be flexible and have a strong work ethic
  • A good understanding of the principles of public health
  • A good knowledge of NCDs
  • Have networking capabilities
  • Certified copies of all necessary documentation, including qualifications



  • Co-ordinating the Health Promotions Programme in the Cape Town office and supervising relevant staff
  • Community-based health promoting activities through health risk-assessments (screening), health education talks, participating in community-based events and capacity building
  • Data collection for key health indicators
  • Develop partnerships with key people, communities and organizations, including the private sector, who can influence CVD reduction through policy, donations and sponsorships
  • Implement activities based on the strategic plan of HSFSA
  • Written and verbal communication with the public, media and partners
