The Expectant Parent Project (EPP)
The HSF’s Expectant Parent Project (EPP) is a research programme aimed at promoting a healthy lifestyle during and after pregnancy, in women living in lower-socio-economic areas. The project is in collaboration with the World Heart Federation, UCT’s Hatter Institute of Cardiology Research, Western Cape Department of Health, Medical Knowledge Institute, and Ikamva Labantu.
The project aims to give pregnant women the opportunity to engage in safe and practical physical exercises. Women attending antenatal clinic in state health facilities will be instructed using a DVD specially created by the HSF. Other tools and activities include training of health care workers, a training manual and brochures.
